For the past 10+ years I have had known thyroid issues. I have gone through times when I have felt down right awful - but didn't think there was much I could do about it. Most doctors always just dismissed my complaints and gave me meds (levothyroxine). My dosage kept increasing and increasing. I've always struggled with constant extreme fatigue, an achy body, hot and cold sensitivities, anxiety issues..(and those are just some of my symptoms)!
Along with my thyroid issues, I also discovered I had PCOS (polysistic ovarian syndrome). I had a very difficult time getting pregnant the first time around but once I did (in 2007) I had a great pregnancy. Our first son was born in July of 2008!
After a few years of trying to get pregnant again we were finally able to conceive in September 2012 and that resulting in a devastating miscarriage in February of 2013. I was 12 weeks pregnant when we found out there was no heartbeat.
We were able to get pregnant again in September of 2013 and our second son was born June 2014! During this pregnancy I felt pretty well but my thyroid function continued to get worse and my dosage continued to increase.
Once our second son was born I felt so blessed and thankful. I had a great pregnancy and delivery and was so thankful to have two healthy boys. I also felt pretty well...for the first 8 weeks or so after he was born....
And then...I crashed. All of the sudden I. Felt. Awful.
It's hard to even explain how bad I felt during that time. All of the sudden, I was full of anxiety for no apparent reason. It wasn't even that I was worried about things - I just couldn't relax at all. My whole body felt tense. My jaw and face was tense. My stomach felt that sick to your stomach feeling almost as if I was dealing with the death of someone. I couldn't focus. I didn't want to go out. I was soooo tired. I had anxiety going to the store. It was insane! I even felt like I couldn't talk.
My Mom convinced me to go to an endocrinologist. I made an appointment and was hoping to get some answers. After bloodwork and a thyroid scan this doctor was the first one to tell me I had Hashimotos Autoimmune Disorder. I have probably had this most of my life - but this was the first time I had heard that. I had no clue what that meant. The endocrinologist shrugged it off and said 90% of people with hypothyroidism have Hashimotos and I will have it my entire life. He said my dosage was off and we would have to play with the dose to try to get it right. Come back in 6 - 8 weeks. That's it. He didn't seem to care too much about all of my symptoms.
I was bound and determined to find some solutions to help myself feel better. So I started to research. I had a dear friend that asked me a couple times if I ever considered essential oils to help. I was a huge skeptic so I shrugged her off a few times. I didn't think essential oils would help with anything.
As I researched I found lots of supplements that would be beneficial for people with autoimmune conditions. From my bloodwork I found my Vitamin D, Iron, and B levels were very low. I started taking those supplements along with magnesium and omega threes. Still didn't make a huge difference.
I found out that it is sometimes helpful for people with hashimoto's disease to avoid gluten foods. Just like celiac disease, Hashimoto's is a chronic autoimmune
disorder. An autoimmune disorder is a condition where the body's immune
system attacks its own tissues; in the case of Hashimoto's, the thyroid
gland is affected. Gluten foods are not the cause of the disorder, but
for some people they trigger an immune system response that results in
tissue inflammation and destruction. I decided to go 100% gluten free. Now I am finally able to get through my days without a constant stomach ache! I realized gluten was the cause of my stomach issues every day after dinner. I began to feel somewhat better from this change.
I also finally decided to research essential oils. I got back in contact with Sarah and decided to make the plunge and order the kit. I was excited but still skeptical. I was ordering this kit to help my anxiety issues and help my thyroid function. I had no idea all of the other things I would begin to use these oils for.
Over the last several months I have become a believer! I won't say the oils have "cured" me - but they are a huge help in my journey! I found an oil called endoflex that seems to work wonders for my thyroid/hormone function. I didn't realize how much it was helping until I was all out of it. Then I couldn't WAIT to get more. My medicine dosage has come down from 150 mg when I was pregnant to now 100 mg. I have more energy (although I still have many tired days) and I feel more relaxed and less hot/cold sensitives (yay)!
Not only have the oils helped my thyroid but I use them for soooo many other things. Sounds crazy - but I realized that I used to always feel achy and almost sick the day after I did deep cleaning in our house. I swear it is because of all of the chemicals. I try not to use chemicals anymore. Water, essential oils, and vinegar are now my go to for house cleaning. I made an all purpose cleaner with these oils and use it everywhere!!
I stopped drinking all pop - essential oils now help make drinking water all day more exciting. Lemon tastes sooo fresh in the morning. Peppermint is the perfect wake me up in the afternoon. Looking forward to trying lime and grapefruit.
I love feeling more in control when we start to feel sick. Thieves is my go to oil! I diffuse it, make a thieves tea, put it on our feet. I believe we have fought a lot of sickness with this oil.
I now take off my makeup with coconut oil mixed with oils (frankincense: helps blemishes, lines, smooth skin, etc, Lavender: helps eyelash growth, and promotes healthy skin, and Lemon). I wash my face with this mixture too!
I have found TONS of other uses! I love feeling like I am using natural products in my house and helping us fight sickness and promote balance.
I still have a ways to go to feeling great - but I am happy to say I feel BETTER. I have these oils to thank!
